#3 You Can't Think What You Don't Know
Just a fellow traveler
A whole lot of my efforts on this platform will be targeted at helping people think anew about diet and dieting. I will be doing my best to tear down myths that are ever so pervasive and ever so detrimental, and that hinder people from reaching their goals.
Most of what I'll be sharing is not well known.
I'll be passing on information that I've collected for over a decade from experts and pioneers in the fields of nutrition, psychology, diet and dieting. I'll highlight the stuff that I think really needs to be highlighted. I'll summarize key findings and point you to the best broadcasts, podcasts, lectures, websites, videos and articles — things you won't want to miss.
Unless you are already following some of these pioneers, chances are, what I have to share will be unlike anything else you've ever encountered. But if you are willing to entertain it with an open heart and open mind, I think you might very well see the rationale for this way of eating and living, and that you might find yourself joining me and many others on this journey.
There's nothing special about me. Likely the primary difference between you and me in this arena, if any, is that I have a lot of passion for this topic, which has resulted in me devoting hundreds of hours to learning about it. But don't think of me as a professor. Think of me as a fellow student who's got the CliffsNotes and who got at least an A- on the test. (Sorry, I may be showing my age: Are CliffsNotes still a thing?) Think of me as a fellow traveler on this journey, a sort of liaison between you and the people in the know. Without going to the effort that I did, you can easily benefit from my summary of my studies.
Though I will share plenty of tips about things like food preparation and exercise, these things will not be the focus of my newsletters. Instead, my primary focus will be to help you think differently about why we humans have weight problems in the first place and why almost all diets fail. Once you understand the fundamental issues at play, you'll have the tools to ensure that this time will be different.
I want to help you change your thoughts and your language when describing diet and dieting. After my lessons, it is my hope that you will see nutrition and dieting from a fresh new perspective so that you can successfully change your behavior in order to achieve your goals.
Changing one's behavior depends on novel thinking. Novel thinking, though, can't happen without first learning new information. That is, we can't will ourselves to think anew about anything; we have to first learn new things. You can't think what you don't know.
This is where my lessons come in: I want to teach you revolutionary things that have been discovered in the arena of nutrition and dieting in the last few decades so that your thoughts and your very language will be impacted in a positive, transformative way. Once your thoughts and your language have been transformed, you can change your behavior, your lives and your own little corners of the world.
I'm not suggesting that the path I'll point you on is easy. But I can assure you that it will be absolutely clear to you what the real stumbling blocks are, and what needs to be done. And the best part: I can assure you that it all can be done without hunger. That's phenomenal, isn't it? Just think of that: you can lose excess weight without any hunger at all.
